This week we begin our new WRITING unit. We will learn to write and revise Realistic Fiction stories. For READING, we also have a new unit. We learn to compare and contrast two versions of the same story (e.g. Cinderella). Our spelling unit is LETTERLAND Unit 15. For MATH, we'll be learning how to add multiple 2-digit numbers (e.g. 25+71+38). We also begin our SCIENCE unit, "Air and Weather."
Mid-term reports come home this Friday, February 24th.
This week in WRITING, we begin to wrap up our Poetry unit; look for our great poetry books once we are done! For READING, we wrap up our Point-of-View/Perspective Unit. For LETTERLAND spelling, we take on Unit 14 (-ear, -er, plus more schwa words). In MATH, we explore our short unit of ARRAYS (repeated addition using rows and columns), the start in on 3-digit addition. Finally, our SOCIAL STUDIES unit on Economics comes to a close, with our in-class Economics Fair! For WRITING, we stay within our poetry unit, and move into writing Haikus and Acrostic poems. For READING, we start a new objective in which we examine a story's Point-of-View, and consider the Perspective of the characters in the story (how they think and feel about the events). In Letterland, we will practice words from Unit 13 (see Spelling, above). For MATH, we dive more deeply into 2D shapes and their various attributes. SOCIAL STUDIES finds us working more on personal Economics.
