This week marks our next-to-last week in 2nd grade! Wow! This week is EOG week, and even though we don't officially take those tests, we WILL take some practice tests (in Reading and Math), to get us ready for all the tests 3rd grade will ask. Look for emails with more details on this.
In WRITING this week, we start the final push on our animal Life Cycle reports. Some of us have finished our first one and are investigating other creatures. For READING, we'll spend Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday practicing our test-taking strategies that will help us understand and answer our practice tests. SPELLING is TBA. For MATH, we'll also review a few days as noted above. Since we released our butterflies last week, our SCIENCE activities will focus on reviewing a our units from throughout the year. Three weeks to go, and everyone is working really hard! Keep it up, Falcons!
Our WRITING unit this week is all about life cycles...we continue our life cycle reports (as your child about THEIR life cycle animal). Fables, folktales and morals-of-the-story are what occupies us during READING this week, culminating with our last reading common assessment. Letterland Unit 25 is our SPELLING focus -- we study a variety of "-ear" and "-eer" words In MATH, we study more ways to graph and plot (and report) data. For SCIENCE, our butterflies "should" hatch this week, giving us lots to observe and discuss. We'll probably release them back to nature on Friday... This week in WRITING, we begin our research unit on the life cycle of animals. Students will choose an animal, research its facts and features (including life cycle), culminating with a written report. For READING, we begin a deep-reading unit on fables and fairy tales, with the goal of understanding the message or moral they contain. For Letterland SPELLING, we'll cover Unit 24, which covers some "-air" and "-are" words. In MATH, we STILL have more measuring activities to do... And finally, SCIENCE will dovetail with writing as we discuss the life cycles of various animals.
