Our first full week back after track out!
For WRITING, we begin the last part of our persuasive unit by focusing on book reviews. We will review books we know, and hopefully get to reviewing some new books as well. Our READING unit is new: we begin reading folktales and fairy tales, and examine their various meanings, messages and morals. This unit is always a favorite! Our LETTERLAND SPELLING unit is Unit 22: . In MATH, we have a new unit as well -- measurement. We will learn the proper way to measure, using both non-standard and standard measuring tools. We will be measuring in both centimeters (cm) and inches (in). Our SOCIAL STUDIES unit begins its final leg, as we explore maps in greater detail, then begin to review the unit for our test. Welcome to Week 3 of Quarter 4...
In WRITING, we continue to focus on Opinion writing, with a special emphasis on including facts AND opinions in our work. We change our READING unit to a focus on describing the connection between a series of historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, or steps in technical procedures in a text. Our SPELLING unit is Letterland #21, which reviews words with "oi" and "oy", as in boy and coil. Our MATH unit is new, as we look at ways to partition rectangular shapes into different numbers of rows and columns. Our SOCIAL STUDIES unit on Environment and Geography begins to examine land masses and land forms. Welcome to Week 2 of Quarter 4...
In WRITING, we learn more about (and write more) Opinion pieces, with a special focus on providing strong details to persuade our reader. Our READING unit is the same, and fins us focusing on the ways that "reasons" an author gives can help support a point or points in a non-fiction text. Our SPELLING unit is Letterland #20, which focuses on plural endings, with an emphasis on "ow" and "ou" words, as in cow and proud. In MATH, we keep working on Problem Solving (word problems), and exploring the best strategies to solve them. Finally, we turn our attention to Maps in our SOCIAL STUDIES unit on Environment and Geography. |
