Week 9, our final week of Quarter 1...
The last week of the quarter will find us doing reviews on many of our previous Reading objectives, and then working on some extension activities, too. For SPELLING, we are on Letterland Unit 9. WRITING is unchanged, as we complete our ongoing personal narrative papers. In MATH, we will take our first test on Place Value. For SCIENCE, we wrap up our unit on Liquids and Solids. Only 3 more weeks of quarter 1 -- yikes! Lots to do...
For READING this week, we finish our current unit (Using pictures to help us understand fictional texts) and begin a new one, which examines ways to use pictures and illustrations to understand non-fiction texts. Our SPELLING unit is #7, looking at different forms of "-ed" words. We continue our personal narrative focus in WRITING. In MATH we wrap up our study of word problem strategies, and turn to a short unit on Odds and Evens. For SCIENCE, we spend some times acquainting ourselves with Liquids and their properties. Welcome back from the Labor Day Holiday, and to week 6!
This week in READING, we focus on RL2.9, which has the students examining how both texts AND illustrations help the reader understand the story. For LETTERLAND, we are in week 6, which focuses on "ge" and "dge" words. WRITING is more work on personal narratives. In MATH, we keep our focus on word problems, and the various ways to understand and solve them. This week marks our switch into SCIENCE, where we will be learning about Solids and Liquids. |
