This week we begin the mid-year Reading Evaluations (mClass). Also note that our math unit on Money is being moved to 3rd Quarter.
This week in WRITING, we begin composing our report on a U.S. state. For READING, we continue work with informational texts, looking at text features and determining the Main Idea. For spelling, we will pause our Letterland lessons until Quarter 3; we'll have vocabulary activities within the main Reading classwork. For MATH, this week sees us working hard on telling time to 5 minute intervals. Finally, in Social Studies, we begin sharing and discussing our family histories. As our quarter speeds along, this week finds us starting our Research unit in WRITING; we will be choosing and reporting on a state of the U.S. In READING, we continue our look at the Main Idea in non-fiction text, as well as identifying unique text features in informational writing. Our LETTERLAND spelling unit is Unit 9 (-ea and -ee vowel pairs). For MATH, we bring our 2-digit addition unit to a close; if there is time, we'll start in our next unit--telling time. In SOCIAL STUDIES, we continue our unit on History and Culture.
This week in WRITING we have begun our research unit. Next week we will choose a topic and go to the library to research. In Letterland, we're in Unit 8, learning about "tch" words and "cket" words. For READING, our main focus is on text features in non-fiction texts. In MATH we are learning strategies for subracting 2-digit numbers. And finally, in SOCIAL STUDIES, we are studying family histories and cultures.
