It's track-out week! Remember, this Friday is early release.
Our unit for READING this week covers Main Idea -- we'll read passages and paragraphs, and determine what the text is mainly about. For SPELLING, we are into Unit 12, which covers "ar" and "or" words like North and Party. We'll be doing more WRITING like scientists this week, with some small observations and reports. Our MATH unit stays with place value, but we'll shift to word problems and problem solving using what we know about place value. Finally, SCIENCE continues with Sound, where we will do some work with volume and amplification. For READING, we will focus on non-fiction text features like titles, captions, glossaries, table of contents, etc. For SPELLING, were studying Letterland Unit 11 (Silent letters: kn, mb, igh, wr). In WRITING, we continue to write like scientists. In MATH, we stay with our focus on place value. Our SCIENCE unit is Sound, and studying sound as a result of vibration.
Quarter 2 is upon us! Here's a rundown of what we'll do this week.
In READING, we will identify the main purpose of a text, including what the author wants to answer, explain or describe. For SPELLING, we'll be studying Unit 10, Vowel Pair words (ai, ay, oa, ow). Our WRITING unit will be all about Writing Like A Scientist. This ties in with our SCIENCE unit on Sound. Finally, in MATH we continue work on Place Value, with a focus on skip counting, numberlines and other strategies to explore ones, tens and hundreds. |
