This is our final week before trackout. Note that I will be continuing my TRC reading evaluations through the week as part of our day.
For READING, we will spend more time writing good Thick and Thin questions based around the texts we read. SPELLING finds us in Unit 3 of Letterland, "Reviewing 'ng', 'ing', 'll', 'ff,' and 'ss' words." For WRITING, we keep on writing our personal narratives; we'll talk a lot about keeping our paper focused. MATH is all about more addition and subtraction strategies, specifically NumberLines, Hundreds charts and Making 10. SS continues our unit on Community and Government. This week, and through the next, I will giving each student their individualized TRC/MClass reading tests to evaluate their reading proficiency -- all the while weaving regular instruction in and around these evaluations. (We'll continue this testing when we track back in, or until everyone is complete, whichever comes first). Let me know if you have any questions.
For READING, we start looking deeper at the objective "Asking and Answering Questions about What We Read". For SPELLING, we are into Unit 2 of Letterland, "More Open and Closed Syllables." For WRITING, we take the story ideas we've been brainstorming and start the planning process to turn it all into a paper! MATH is all about more addition and subtraction strategies. SS continues our unit on Community and Government. Welcome students and families to 2nd grade! Each week I will post a few notes about what we will be learning each week. You'll also be able to find our Specials and our weekly spelling words. The Learning Links will take you to many online links for activities we'll do throughout the year.
This week in WRITING, we will begin to explore writing narratives, with a focus on taking a small moment during an event, and exploring it. For READING, we'll spend this week examining the parts of a story, like Characters, Setting, Problem/Solution and Plot. For SPELLING, we look at Letterland Unit 1, which covers open and closed syllable words like "pro" and "sock". Our MATH activities will center around adding and subtracting numbers within 20. Finally, for the first 4 weeks we have our SOCIAL STUDIES unit, in which we explore the ideas of community and government. |
