Another short week, due to Memorial Day on Monday...
In READING this week, we start our third major unit covering Fairy Tales, Folk Tales and Fables -- looking at both their story elements and the lessons and morals they teach. In LETTERLAND, we cover Unit 31: contractions like "won't" and "isn't." In WRITING, we use our Reading unit to look at the structure of Fairy Tales and Fables, and write our own version of them. For MATH, another new unit: Measurement. Finally, we have paused Geography to do some SCIENCE: Life Cycles, especially caterpillars and butterflies. This week, we take our 2nd major reading test on non-fiction texts that focus on steps in a procedure or a historical event. Our spelling unit is No. 30, "er" and "est" words. For writing, this is our last week with persuasive writing. We'll also take a test in Math, covering problem solving 2-digit addition and subtraction problem in word problem form. In Social Studies, we look specifically at landforms for our Geography unit.
This week there is no school on Wednesday due to the downtown Teacher Rally.
For Reading this week, we continue to look at non-fiction text and steps in a procedure writing, along with writing that talks about scientific processes. Our spelling Unit is about "-ed" words like "loaned" and "spanned." Writing is still focused on opinion and persuasive compositions. In math, we're now into our new unit exploring addition and subtraction word problems. We start investigating different Landforms in Geography this week. |
