This week is only 3 days long, due to our Thanksgiving vacation.
Due to the short week, in WRITING we'll introduce our next unit: Research. We'll talk about what it means to research a topic, and what information our papers should have. For READING, we'll work on our Collaborative Conversations unit, where we learn how to discuss and debate various reading topics and opinions. There is no LETTERLAND for this short week; instead, we will practice some basic spelling and vocabulary strategies. In MATH, we continue our introduction into Subtraction strategies for 2-digit math problems. Finally, we begin our SOCIAL STUDIES unit, History and Family Cultures. Welcome back all! The rest of this quarter is going to go quickly, so hold on!
For WRITING this week, we will continue to write like scientists: we'll do small scientific activities and then write in various ways about what we did. For READING, this week we focus on what the Author's Purpose is for writing (Persuade, Inform or Entertain). LETTERLAND spelling is Unit 7. We focus on the three different sounds of the prefix "ed". Our work in MATH this week will be reviewing ways to add 2-digit numbers, as well as working with word problems. Finally, our SCIENCE unit on sound comes to a close this week, as we take a few more class periods to explore sound and vibration. |
