Quarter 4 is here! Much yet to do!
This week (and next), we'll be reading Informational texts in READING and discussing the main point of the article(s), and identifying what reasons/details the author gives to support the main point. LETTERLAND spelling will be Unit 26, focusing on Prefixes, like "un" "pre" "re" and "dis." The focus of WRITING is now Persuasive writing (reviews, opinion letters, etc). For MATH, we'll be studying 3-digit subtraction, and strategies to solve these problems successfully. Science gives way to SOCIAL STUDIES. We'll explore Geography and Environmental Literacy. The final week of Quarter 3 is upon us!
This week in READING, we cover several topics to close our or quarter, including comparing and contrasting non-fiction text. For LETTERLAND spelling, we are learning Unit 25, which covers "-eer" and "-ear" words. In WRITING, we continue with Realistic Fiction stories. In MATH, we enter our second week of 3-digit addition; we'll be learning the number-line strategy this week. Finally, it's our last week of SCIENCE, and we will focus on the tools that meteorologists use, like rain gauges and anemometers. This is the last week of our READING unit in Comparing and Contrasting Two Stories. Our SPELLING Unit is #24, "are" and "air" words. For WRITING, we keep on with our Realistic Fiction. In MATH, we start up our final unit this quarter -- 3-digit addition! SCIENCE continues with our study of the Weather.
This week in READING, we continue our Compare and Contrast of Two Stories, focusing on their Characters, Settings, Problems, Solutions and other story elements. Letterland SPELLING is unit 23, "oor" "ore" and "our" words (ex. door, pore, pour). For WRITING, we are now fully into our Realistic Fiction unit, and learning how to choose a topic and to begin filling out a planning sheet. This week in MATH, we finish our Array study, then work on adding a string of 2-digit numbers together (next week we move into 3-digit addition). In SCIENCE, this week will be about weather terminology.
